Scientists previously blamed El Nino for all sorts of bad weather - from killer tornadoes and devastating floods to record snowfall. According to NASA, though, last January the typical pattern subsided and all we had was La Nada to constrain the net stream. The result was the wild weather so many places have experienced.
NASA says each two-to-seven years surface waters across the equatorial Pacific warm up (El Nino) and then cool down (La Nina). No one knows what will happen next - but we do know that we live during a fast-moving cycle of Earth changes.
